THE FILM CORNER…
The film “American Skin” by Nate Parker was released in the U.S. in January 2021. It is very much a timely piece. The feature deals with themes of racial profiling, police brutality, and unaccountability within the American justice system.
The film shows brilliance in the areas of theme, plot, and characterization. Parker, the writer and director of the film, stars in the movie as well. Still further, the picture features a stellar cast in supporting roles: Omari Hardwick (of “Power” fame), Theo Rossi, Shane Paul McGhie, Milauna Jackson, and Beau Knapp.
The film provides the viewing audience with much food-for-thought as it relates to current racial injustices in America. Additionally, the picture is worth a view by audiences across lines of color as America attempts to hold a light to its existing social problems. While the film’s themes will break your heart, it is well worth it since the film could lead its audiences to contribute positively to issues related to social justice and humanity.
American Skin (2019) can be seen on Amazon, and other streaming services.
